AI media planning: how it actually works.
An AI agent reads the objective, the territory and the budget, builds the media mix, books and buys the space and then optimises whatever can be optimised. It is not magic: it is automation, with precise limits worth knowing up front.
What it does and what it does not
AI planning uses statistical models and market data to decide where the budget goes, in what proportion and over which period. It replaces the repetitive part of a media planner’s job: cross-reading audience data, media availability and costs, and holding all of it together.
It does not replace strategy or creative. The business objective, the message and the final judgement stay with the people running the company. The AI shortens the timeline and reduces wasted budget: that is the real gain, not a promise of results.
Six things to check in an AI solution
- Data quality: An AI is worth the data it receives. With no history of your own it starts from industry data and benchmarks: it works, but it learns campaign after campaign.
- Channels covered: Not every AI platform sees offline. Check it covers local radio, local TV, connected TV, cinema and DOOH as well as digital.
- Level of autonomy: Some only suggest, others act. The right question is: where does my approval sit before any money is spent?
- Integrations: It must connect to the accounts you already use, from Google Ads to Meta Business, without starting from scratch.
- Transparency: Can you see why the algorithm chose that mix? A plan you cannot read is a plan you cannot argue with.
- Human support: Even with automation, onboarding and anomalies need someone on the other side.
What an SME can actually choose from
- Media agency: Strategy, creative and buying with a dedicated human contact. The choice for companies that want to delegate everything and can sustain an ongoing relationship.
- Independent consultant: A professional specialised in one or two channels. Very flexible and close to the territory; coverage stays within the media they know.
- AI platform (Alchemyx): The algorithm builds the plan from budget, audience and objective, then the platform books and buys the space, online and offline. You do not pick the single medium: you pick the outcome and the budget.
- Local sales house: Sells the space of the media it represents. Useful for a one-off buy on a specific station or circuit; it does not cover the whole mix.
- Hybrid approach: In-house marketing plus an AI platform. It works when someone inside the company reads the reports and plans regularly: the AI builds the plan, control stays in.
- Channel-native AI tools: Google Performance Max or Meta Advantage+ optimise well inside their own network. They do not see offline and give no single reading of the plan.
The flow in five steps
- Onboarding and data: You connect the advertising accounts and declare objective, territory, audience and budget. The AI collects the available history and the industry data for the chosen area.
- Media plan: The algorithm cross-reads audience data, national statistics and media availability and proposes the mix: which channels, with what weight, over which period.
- Approval: You review the plan, change the priorities if needed, approve. Nothing is spent before your approval.
- Buying and go-live: The platform books the space, buys it, sends the creative in the right format to each medium and launches the campaign across every selected channel.
- Optimisation and report: Online adjusts during the flight, offline stays as planned. At the end a single report brings every channel together.
What the AI does not do
- It depends on data: With no history the algorithm starts from industry benchmarks: the first choices are reasoned but not yet calibrated on your case.
- Creative stays human: The AI adapts formats and can generate variants, but the message, the tone and the final choice are yours.
- It does not know your company: It reads market data, not your relationships with long-standing clients or your internal constraints. That context belongs in the brief.
- It does not see the real world: Unexpected events and news that change the context need human eyes to decide whether to stop a live campaign.
- Short and medium term: The system is built for campaign flights. Multi-year brand strategy follows a different logic and different tools.
- No guaranteed results: No platform and no agency can guarantee an advertising result. Automation raises the odds, not the certainty.

The questions we get most
What is AI media planning?
Using AI models to turn objective, territory and budget into a media plan: which channels, with what weight and over which period, with automatic optimisation where the media allow it.
What does an AI agent actually do?
It takes the objective and the budget, reads the data of the available media, builds the plan, books and buys the space, sends the creative to each medium in the required formats, launches the campaigns and shifts the online budget towards what performs.
Does it work for radio, TV and cinema too?
Yes. Local radio, local TV, connected TV, cinema and DOOH sit in the same plan as the online channels. Offline media give less granular data, so planning uses certified audience data and predictive models.
Do I need technical skills?
No. The brief is guided and you answer in plain language. Knowing your market matters; knowing the advertising tools does not.
Does the AI guarantee results?
No, and be wary of anyone promising it. Optimisation raises the probability of a good outcome, but the result also depends on the creative, the offer and the market.
How much does Alchemyx cost?
The platform fee is 13.98% and is always included in the campaign budget you declare: it is never added on top. The minimum is EUR 2,000 plus VAT per campaign, not per month, fee included.
Is a subscription required?
No. The FREE plan has no subscription. The PREMIUM plan costs EUR 2,180 per year plus VAT, paid upfront in a single payment at activation, and adds campaign history, analysis over time and detailed reports.
Is Alchemyx already open to everyone?
Not yet. The platform runs a pilot phase from September 2026 and the commercial launch in Italy is planned for the first quarter of 2027. Early Access applications are open and free, but places are assigned by selection.
What do I need to start?
Objective, territory, period and budget. The brief is guided: you answer in plain language and the AI turns the answers into the plan’s parameters. Creative can be uploaded or generated in the platform.
Does the AI decide on its own how much to spend?
No. No spend starts without your explicit approval of the plan. The algorithm builds and balances the mix, you approve, and only then does the platform book and buy.
